About Us
1970. The Centerville Fire Department was established with Robert A. Smith as the first Fire Chief. At that time, the department was all-volunteer with one paid firefighter.
1985. Chief Smith retired, and Frank Wadsworth was appointed as Fire Chief.
1995. The City hired Frank Wadsworth as the full-time Fire Chief. With three full-time paid personnel along with volunteers, the department was then staffed on a 24 hour, 7 days-a-week basis.
2004. Chief Wadsworth retired, and Larry Sharpless was promoted to Fire Chief. Chief Sharpless served until 2006 when he retired.
2006-2007. Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jones served as the Interim Fire Chief.
2007-2009. Ken Mathews served as the Fire Chief during this period.
2008. The department went to a full paid staff, and we currently have four personnel on shift 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days-a-year.
2009. Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jones again served as Interim Fire Chief.
2009. Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jones was appointed by the Centerville City Council as the Chief of Fire Services.
